Stress, Immune Function, and Health: The Connection.

Bruce S. Rabin.

Wiley-Liss. 1999.

ISBN: 0471241814.

Immune Function, and Health is a psychoneuroimmunology monograph that explains how psychological stress alters immune function via neuroendocrine pathways and, in turn, influences susceptibility to immune‑mediated disease, and how these effects can be buffered by specific behaviours and coping strategies.

Bruce S. Rabin is an American physician‑scientist and immunologist known for pioneering work on how stress affects the immune system and health, and for translating this mind–body research into clinical and lifestyle programmes. Rabin earned both his M.D. and Ph.D. in immunology at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He joined the University of Pittsburgh in 1972 and spent his entire career there, eventually becoming Professor of Pathology and Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and Medical Director of the Division of Clinical Immunopathology and the Healthy Lifestyle Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

After a career of approximately 45 years, he retired in 2017 from these roles.
