Schema Therapy: A Practitioner’s Guide.

Jeffrey E. Young, Janet S. Klosko & Marjorie nE. Weishaar.

The Guilford Press. 2003.

ISBN: 1572308389.

Schema Therapy lays out the schema therapy model and then moves stepwise through assessment and intervention. In practical terms, it integrates cognitive, behavioural, experiential (imagery, chair work), and attachment-focused relational techniques into a coherent treatment framework explicitly geared to long‑standing maladaptive schemas.

The guide is designed for practitioners working with personality disorders and other treatment-resistant problems, emphasising: rapid case conceptualisation, thorough developmental history, systematic identification of early maladaptive schemas, and structured interventions across modes and schemas.

It also highlights using the therapeutic relationship (limited reparenting, empathic confrontation) as an active change mechanism rather than a neutral backdrop.
