Internal Desecration is a book on how childhood trauma relates to people’s mental representations of God. Doehring’s work explores the inter-relationship between severity of childhood traumatization and God-images, especially how abuse can distort or undermine an image of a loving God, and hence, spiritual development.

Carrie Doehring is a scholar, pastoral counsellor, and licensed psychologist who has been affiliated with Iliff School of Theology since 2003, where she served as Clifford Baldridge Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling. She is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and licensed in Massachusetts and Colorado, and her work focuses on trauma, moral stress, spiritual struggles, and socially just spiritual care.

Her education includes degrees from McGill University, Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Ph.D. from Boston University.
