Child Sexual Abuse is a foundational monograph by David Finkelhor that consolidates early empirical and theoretical work on child sexual abuse. It examines victims, perpetrators, social perceptions, long-term effects, professional responses, and prevention.

The major theoretical contribution is the Four Preconditions Model, which explains child sexual abuse as the outcome of several interacting conditions rather than as the product of a single cause. This framework also shifted attention away from the assumption that all offenders are stereotypical pedophiles or strangers.

David Finkelhor is an American sociologist and one of the leading scholars of child victimization, child sexual abuse, family violence, and related forms of interpersonal violence. Finkelhor spent his academic career at the University of New Hampshire, where he became Professor of Sociology and University Professor.

He has served as director of the Crimes against Children Research Center and co-director of the Family Research Laboratory.
