Asia Rising: A Handbook of History and International Relations in East, South and Southeast Asia. Editors: Ryo Sahashi, Yasuhiro Matsuda & Waka Aoyama. Springer. 2024. ISBN: 9789819743742.

Asia Rising is an open-access handbook. It presents Asia's history through an international-relations lens, covering colonization, imperialism, the Cold War, decolonization, democratization, the rise of China, and regionalism in Asia. The book is aimed at advanced students, researchers, and lecturers who want a broad, scholarly overview of Asia's historical and geopolitical development. It also emphasizes the Indo-Pacific's strategic role in global geopolitics and seeks to offer an Asia-centred alternative to more Western-authored textbooks.

Yasuhiro Matsuda is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, University of Tokyo, with expertise in Asian political and diplomatic history, China-Taiwan relations, and Cross-Strait dynamics.

Waka Aoyama is a Professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, University of Tokyo, focusing on Southeast Asian economics, ethics, and ethnography, particularly Sama-Bajau communities in the Philippines and Mindanao.
